'Michael Heitzler Governs With A Conscience

 From his humble office on the backside of the Marguerite H. Brown Municipal Center Goose Creek Mayor Michael Heitzler looks out on the grounds used by the city for outdoor events. The building and the park are just some of the many projects Heiztler has overseen during his more than three decades as mayor of Goose Creek. Heitzler is only the third mayor the city has had since Goose Creek incorporated back in 1961. Although the title is considered part time Heitzler admits he takes his responsibilities seriously. His positive attitude and love of CTE and children are reflected in the outstanding quality of the program of welding instruction that he has maintained at Goose Creek High. His enthusiasm, his innovativeness, and his dedication to the CTE are exemplary. His flexibility in working with students, teachers, and the public has earned him an enviable reputation as an excellent teacher who truly cares about people. Carlos Salinas Award Nominations Sought

Nominations are open through June 30, 2009, for the Carlos Salinas award, which recognizes a S.C. dentist who serves patients with special health care needs, the state Department of Health and Environmental Control announced.
